Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how JigSpot ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects the personal data you provide when using our fishing map application. We operate under Philippine law, specifically the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
1. Data We Collect
When you create an account or use JigSpot, we may collect the following personal data:
- Account data — your name, email address, and password (stored as a hashed value; we never store your password in plain text).
- Profile photo — uploaded at your discretion.
- GPS location data — latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy, and speed, collected only while you actively use the GPS tracking feature. Location data is stored locally on your device and synced to our servers only when you are online.
- Fishing spots — saved spot names, coordinates, depth readings, spot types, ratings, and any notes you add.
- Broadcast location — your real-time location shared with friends you have explicitly accepted, and only while you have the broadcast feature enabled.
- Usage data — track session timestamps and application activity used to provide and improve the service.
2. How We Use Your Data
We process your personal data to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Provide app features — offline bathymetric maps, GPS tracking, spot saving, and friend location sharing.
- Sync your data across devices when you are online.
- Respond to support inquiries you send us.
- Improve app performance and fix issues using aggregated, anonymous usage statistics.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure (Cloudflare, Inc., United States), which acts as our data processor. Cloudflare provides industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Your password is never stored in recoverable form.
GPS and spot data is cached on your device using IndexedDB so the app works offline. This local data is not accessible to other apps on your device.
4. Sharing Your Data
We share personal data only in the following circumstances:
- Infrastructure — Cloudflare, Inc. processes your data solely to host and deliver the service.
- Friends you accept — if you enable broadcast, your real-time location is visible to friends you have approved. You can disable broadcast at any time.
- Legal obligations — if required by Philippine law, court order, or lawful government authority.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party not listed above.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
6. Your Rights Under RA 10173
As a data subject under Philippine law, you have the right to:
- Be informed — know what personal data we hold about you and how it is used.
- Access — request a copy of your personal data.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data. You can update your name and profile photo directly in the app.
- Erasure or blocking — request deletion of your personal data when it is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected.
- Object — object to the processing of your personal data, including processing for direct marketing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- File a complaint — lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) at www.privacy.gov.ph if you believe your rights have been violated.

7. Cookies and Local Storage
JigSpot uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. We use your browser's IndexedDB to cache map data and fishing spots for offline use. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
JigSpot is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the effective date. Continued use of JigSpot after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
